What Is It?
Medical codes are updated every year, and some of those updates affect cases in Practicode. When a case you've been assigned has an available code update, you'll see a pop-up notification before you work that case. This is how Practicode lets you decide whether to apply the latest code set to that case's answer key.
Not every case will trigger this pop-up. Only cases that are affected by annual code changes will prompt you, which is why you may notice different version years across your assigned cases. That's completely normal.
What the Pop-Up Says
When it appears, the pop-up will read:
“Code updates are now available to allow for the new year's code updates. Click the buttons below to 'Update' your current case answer key or 'Opt Out' to not update the selected case to the updated answer key.”
Your Two Options
Update -- Applies the current year's codes to that case's answer key. Choose this if you want to practice with the most up-to-date code set.
Opt Out -- Keeps the existing answer key as-is. The case will remain on its current code year.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- Your choice applies to that specific case only. It does not carry over to any other cases in your queue.
- You will see this pop-up separately for each case that has an update available.
- If you accidentally select the wrong option, contact AAPC for assistance to get it sorted out.
That's all there is to it. When the pop-up appears, just decide whether you want to work the case with updated codes or stick with the existing answer key, and move on.
